PROGRAMS
We serve the community through a variety of outreach programs or events throughout the year which are described below. Based on available resources, these programs are planned and scheduled in Events. Review the upcoming programs so you can plan on attending, learn something interesting, and have some fun.
The History Trunk Program – This program is unique to the FMHM and was developed by a team of educators in conjunction with representatives from the South Carolina Department of Education utilizing curriculum standards for the elementary grades. Our first traveling trunk, “This is my Town,” features the history of the Catawba tribe and the timeline of the town’s beginnings. A second traveling exhibit, “People and Places, Past and Present,” for the middle schools focuses on Fort Mill connections through several time periods including Native Americans, Settlement of the town, Revolutionary War, Antebellum, Civil War, Industrialization, the World Wars, and local Educational system. Educators have found this to be an excellent teaching tool as students experience an up-close look at these artifacts when the traveling exhibit is presented in their classroom.
Lunch & Learns – Educational presentations that are held during the lunch hour. The attendee has the option to bring a lunch, purchase a lunch through the organization or not eat a lunch and only attend the event. This is held in an informal atmosphere that brings people together to collaborate and learn about a historical subject. This may or may not be Fort Mill related.
