A Message from the Executive Director
Thank you for visiting our website! If this is your first encounter with the Fort Mill History Museum, I hope it’s just a doorway that you will decide you simply must walk through and come to see us in person. When you visit the museum on Clebourne Street, you will find out just how much you know, or didn’t know, about Fort Mill and how many interesting things even town natives don’t realize about this special place. And while you’re visiting, we want to tell you about “Third Thursday” and the “Children’s Summer Reading Program” and our “History Trunk in Schools” program and so many more initiatives that you and your family can take advantage of. Of course we want you to become members of the museum, because we want you to experience all that we have to offer and I don’t believe you’ll be disappointed with the variety of things to see and do.
I suppose on this page I’m supposed to give you my bio and tell you about my credentials and try and impress you with things I know or people I’ve met, but I’d rather just invite you to come and see me and let me really impress you with the history of your town. I’m not a native myself, and that’s ok because a lot of you aren’t either. The museum isn’t only for those people who “remember when.” (We love those people, by the way. And we treasure hearing their stories!) But it’s also a place for people like me who landed here from somewhere else and are making our own history in a place we now call home. What better way to nourish the roots you’re planting than by learning about the place where you’re putting them down?
So come by and see me, whether you’ve been here forever or you just crossed the county line. I’m excited to welcome you to the place “where history comes to life.”
